Termite-Specific FAQs (Core section)
How do I know if I have termites?

Common signs include hollow-sounding wood, mud-like tubes along walls, fine granular mud-like particles (old lady sugar) coming from infected lumber or wooden materials within or outside the building, and subtle structural damage like peeling lumber surface or easy to break lumber or wooden surface.

Termites can cause significant structural damage to wooden structures, furniture or wall panels if not detected and treated early. Early detection and treatment can reduce repair costs and risk to property.

Treatment options may include liquid soil treatments, baiting systems, wood treatments, or integrated approaches depending on the level of infestation.

Some treatments protect for several years, while bait systems require ongoing monitoring.

Yes, including routine inspections and pre-purchase (real estate) inspections.

Yes, if conditions allow; however, on-going monitoring and preventive treatments reduce the risk of recurrence.

From a few hours to a full or several days depending on property size and method to be used.

Pricing & Service Process
How much does pest control cost?

Costs vary based on pest type, infestation severity, property size and treatment method. Inspections usually determine exact pricing.

Yes we do, once the visit is scheduled on workdays Monday to Friday during standard working hours there is generally no cost. Outside of this, there is a 200.00 TT$ charge that is refundable should the work be awarded/given to us.

A technician assesses infestation signs, type of termite, or pest, entry points, and other risk factors, then recommends a treatment plan.

Most of our services include a service warranty/guarantee or follow-up visits within a defined period.

Preparation & Aftercare
How should I prepare for treatment?

Preparation may include clearing areas, securing food, or moving furniture. Instructions are provided in advance.

Follow guidance such as ventilation, cleaning restrictions, or avoiding treated areas for a specified time period.

Some pests are eliminated quickly. Others pests, like termites or bed bugs require time. Subterranean termites for example would take about three (3) to nine (9) months to be effectively eradicated especially if there was no pre construction treatment and other treatment may require follow-up treatments.

Commercial Clients
Do you offer ongoing pest management plans for businesses?

Yes we do, for both businesses and homes, including scheduled inspections, compliance documentation and preventive treatments.

Yes, with customized treatment plans and site-specific risk management.

Yes, service reports and compliance records can be provided.

Prevention & Education
How can I prevent termites or pests?

For termites you should have your pre-construction termite treatment mandatory inclusive of the underside of the ground floor slabs, aprons, at the base of and behind retaining walls; use certified pressure treated lumber or ensure that there is a quality termite treatment procedure for treatment of all lumber forming part of the permanent structure, reduce moisture and water collection in or around the foundations and under floor slabs, seal entry points, and maintain your building’s termite treatment plan every four to five years. For other pests, store food properly, keep garbage bags sealed after use and dispose of all garbage efficiently, keep garbage bins covered, have designated eating areas, clean-up immediately after events and schedule regular inspections.

Yes. Changes in pest activity, droppings, structural damage, or unusual smells/scents should be reported.

Reticulitermes Flavipes (Eastern Subterranean Termites)

Trinidad and Tobago, along with the wider Caribbean and North America, are known for experiencing events that cause significant structural damage. They build their colonies underground and create mud trails to access food sources, like wood, without being exposed to air. A single colony can house hundreds of thousands of termites, making them formidable pests. Key characteristics:

  • Colony size: Up to 400,000 to 600,000 termites.
  • Damage rate: moderate to high if left untreated by qualified Pest Control Operators.
  • Signs of infestation: Mud trails and termite dropping on floor or in cupboard and cabinets.

Prevention Tip:
Keep wood debris away from your home, fix leaks, and ensure good drainage to deter these moisture-loving pests!

Formosan Termites (Copotermes Formosanus)

Known as one of the most aggressive and destructive termite species, Formosan termites are sometimes called the “super termites” due to their large colonies and fast eating habits. Native to Asia, they have spread across the southern U.S. and thrive in warm, humid climates. Key characteristics:

  • Colony size: Over a million termites.
  • Damage rate: Rapid; they can cause severe damage in a short time.

Signs of infestation:
Swarms of winged termites, large mud nests, damaged wood with honeycomb patterns, and their remarkable ability to construct free-standing trails independent of walls or other supports are all characteristic traits. These termites can also build their tube tracks vertically without needing surrounding support and travel through layers of shelving, moving up or down as if suspended in the air.

Prevention Tip: Seal all cracks in your home’s foundation and keep landscaping well-maintained to limit moisture and entry points.

Rats & Mice

Rodents cause massive damage to local households, farms, and businesses. They constantly search for food and shelter, often moving indoors when heavy rains flood their nests, or when nearby bush fires and construction projects drive them out. Beyond chewing through electrical wires and walls, they ruin food supplies with their waste and spread dangerous bacteria, causing dangerous diseases such as leptospirosis.

  • Prevention Tip: Lock away food in sturdy plastic, metal or glass bins, patch up holes around plumbing and doors, and use secure lids on all trash cans. Have your domestic waste disposed of frequently.

Ticks

These blood-sucking pests thrive in our warm, tropical climate and are a constant threat to pets and livestock. They hide in tall grass and can quickly take over kennels, yards, and living rooms. Aside from causing painful bites, a severe tick problem can make both you and your pets weak and sick from a series of bacterial and parasitic infections as well as toxins that cause allergic reactions and temporary paralysis.

  • Prevention Tip: Keep your lawn cut short, check your dogs regularly, wash pet bedding in hot water, and stop animals from roaming into thick bush.

Mosquitoes/Sand Flies

Mosquitoes are a major health threat locally because they carry viruses like dengue, Zika, and chikungunya. They breed rapidly in the heat, especially during the rainy season. Any bit of trapped water can become a breeding ground within days as mosquitos’ eggs can last for as long as a year in dry conditions.

  • Prevention Tip: Check your yard weekly to tip out standing water from old tires, flower pots, and drums. Keep your guttering clean and fit mesh screens on windows. Change vase water and wash vase every two weeks, store water in sealed containers.

Ants

Ants are highly persistent invaders that swarm kitchens, cupboards, and even electrical outlets looking for sweetness and moisture. While some species leave clear trails on your counters, others nest quietly inside your walls or appliances. Out in the yard, stinging fire ants can make outdoor spaces unusable.

  • Prevention Tip: Wipe up spills right away, store sugar and sweet foods in airtight jars, don’t leave pet food out overnight, and caulk small cracks in floors or walls and other household fixtures.

Cockroaches

Roaches love warm, damp spaces, making local kitchens, cupboards, drains and other unsanitary environments as their prime targets. They come out at night to feed, scavenging through food residues leaving behind disease causing pathogens and allergens that trigger asthma and other respiratory diseases. Because they multiply very fast, a small problem can turn into a major infestation very quickly. While cockroaches do not necessarily bite, they are vectors for a wide variety of harmful health issues; spreading bacteria, viruses and worms.

  • Prevention Tip: Never leave dirty dishes in the sink overnight. Keep kitchen counters dry before bed, fix leaky pipes under the sink, and pull out appliances to clean behind them regularly.

Snails

Snails can destroy a beautiful garden or backyard patch overnight, especially during wet weather. They chew ragged holes through your vegetables and flowers, leaving silvery slime trails behind. During the hot midday sun, they hide away under pots, stones, and thick leaves.

  • Prevention Tip: Avoid watering your garden late in the evening, clear away dead leaves and debris where they hide, and keep soil drainage clear. Have a frequent snail treatment plan in place during the rainy season.

Snakes

From harmless boas to venomous coral snakes and mapepires, encounters with snakes are common locally. They usually wander into yards looking for a cool hiding spot or chasing food. If your property has a lot of overgrown bushes or an active rat problem, you are much more likely to attract them.

  • Prevention Tip: Keep your grass cut low, clear out piles of old wood or construction materials and leaves near the house, and focus on getting rid of rodents, seal gaps in walls and foundations and use door sweeps to keep door spaces tight; this prevents snakes from slipping inside the house.
